Monday, February 1st Reading
Good Morning All! We are really excited for this. Feel free to call, comment, or email with any quesitons or ideas. The reading for today (Feb. 1) is 1 Nephi 1 THROUGH 1 Nephi 4.
It was a good experience reading the first 4 chapters of 1 Nephi today. There were something which stuck out to me which I hadn't really thought of before: 1 Nephi 4:27--Zoram, thinking Nephi was Laban, "spoke unto [him] many times concerning the elders of the Jews" as they were walking. This made me think of what kind of man Zoram must have been. Was he aware that Laban was not a very righteous man so he was trying to do some missionary work by speaking of the elders? Being able to travel with Lehi's family to the promised land may have been a reward from the Lord for Zorams faithfulness.
There was not one specific thing that stuck out to me in the reading tonight that I had not heard before. However, verse 1: "I Nephi, being born of goodly parents..." just makes me think of how much I take my family, especially my parents, for granted. How lucky am I for being raised surrounded by the gospel and how much they taught me every day. When I was young I used to complain about having to stop what I was doing to read scriptures, have family prayer, or even family home evening with the dreaded Konnad FHE song. Now that I am older and have Bella to do all this with it makes me appreciate my parents that much more. How many people in the world dont have that. I have had it all my life and am sooo thankful for it. I dont remember one time either of them complained to us about their callings, all of which were super time consuming and took a lot of effort and support. My parents are amazing and I dont think I will ever be able to tell them how greatful I am to them for raising me in the gospel. Thanks Mom and Dad!!!
Christina...that's funny you mentioned that, because those were some of the same feelings I had. How grateful i am to be "born of goodly parents! :) Let me know when you are ready to learn the 2nd verse to the FHE song! :) Sorry i don't know how to change my name to just "Jan" on my e-mail account! :)
